The course offers students the chance to train intensively as an actor, using the established and renowned acting traditions of East 15. They will learn how to deal with the modern technicalities and disciplines that are required in today’s industry, acquiring a solid foundation for a professional career as an actor. Throughout the year, students follow a solid programme of acting, audition technique, voice, singing, movement and theory. In addition to this, specialist media classes are included to prepare students for each of the end of term projects.
Applicant information
MA in Acting for TV, Film and Radio would particularly suit professional actors looking to gain more acting experience in front of the camera and microphone or graduates (possibly from a related background) who wish to become professional actors.
First term
In the first term, students are given an introduction to basic acting methodology, whilst the media classes concentrate on a programme of radio and microphone work culminating in a professional studio recording of a radio drama production. A professionally recorded copy of this radio drama is given to students.
Second term
In the second term, students further develop their performance skills with improvisation and more detailed text work. The media classes start to concentrate on television and film culminating in a TV drama experience. A professionally edited copy of this production is given to students.
Third term
In the third term, the programme brings together all of the skills and ideas developed earlier. In this term students are prepared for the demands of the profession, as well as developing their personal strengths and acknowledging their limitations. The third term culminates in the production of various short films, which are included in the graduating showcase event in September.
Students working towards the MA, have the option of doing a practical performance project with a reflective portfolio or writing a dissertation.
The culmination of the year is a showcase performance in a major West End theatre for agents, casting directors and film, television and theatre directors. This unique showcase allows students to apply all the acting skills they have learnt in a series of short films that are shown on a cinema screen. A professionally edited copy of the showcase is given to the students.
After East 15
Although MA Acting for TV, Film and Radio has a
focus on media-based projects, recent graduates have gone onto work in
