Continuing Success in British Soaps
Jenny Platt, a 2002 East 15 graduate, has now entered her second year playing the role of Violet in Coronation Street.
Coronation Street has been at the top of the ratings for most of its long run and, despite tough competition from new soaps and even new TV channels, remains the highest rated programme on British television. The show has been on British TV screens since the 1960s and has aired over 6,000 episodes.
Jenny joined the hit show with a dramatic entrance. Her role as the 40th barmaid of the Rover's Return has immediately placed Jenny in the Coronation Street history.
Over on the BBC, former The Bill actor and East 15 graduate, Billy Murray, joined the cast of EastEnders in early 2005 to play Johnny Allen.
Billy was also known for his character Don Beech, whom he played for eight years and later reprised in the special spin-off Beech OnThe Run.
Billy appeared in EastEnders back in 1991 when he played a crook who drove into the Square and crashed a car into The Arches. He has over 30 years experience in the television industry playing parts in Dempsey And Makepeace, Rock Follies, Minder, Z Cars and many others.
His film credits include Up The Junction, Poor Cow, McVicar and Essex Boys.
